On 15 December 2009 RoS hosted a Product Launch at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh. There were video seminars on Automated Registration of Title to Land (artl), Registers Direct (rd), Business Development Products and Future Developments.

In the second seminar Dougie Airbright (DA) of Customer Relations introduced a series of videos explaining the workings and benefits of Registers Direct.

DA: One of our most widely used electronic products is Registers Direct.  Let’s begin by finding out a little bit more about it.

DA: BT our IT partners assisted us in developing the new version of Registers Direct, and we asked them to tell us about it.

DA: Now that we know about Registers Direct and its background lets hear how some of our customers use Registers Direct.

Let’s start with our biggest customer the private search companies.  They use Registers Direct to carry out Land and Property search reports, mainly on behalf of solicitors acting for the public on property transactions.

DA: Local authorities have been able to take advantage of Registers Direct to make major savings.  Indeed the Bigger Economics report, referred to earlier, suggests that Local Authorities, using RD, were able to collect an extra £90 million in council tax last year. Let’s hear more about the ways they use it and why it has important benefits for them.

DA: Now let’s hear from some people who use RD for other reasons.

DA: Registers of Scotland also use Registers Direct to support our business particularly in our Customer Service Centres in Queen Street Edinburgh and George Square Glasgow.  Let’s look at this in action.

DA: So what have we learned about Registers Direct?

  • We know that it’s used by a wide variety of organisations, and for many different purposes.
  • It has resulted in major savings for public sector bodies.
  • It’s a key tool in the conveyancing sector, particularly when it is accessed via the search companies.
  • It’s a reliable and cost effective service.

We are committed to supporting and developing RD and will continue to work closely with our customers to deliver a first class product. We know that we can do better and want to work with stakeholders to make RD all that it can be.
