RoS Product Launch — Business Development Products

Product Launch Index

On 15 December 2009 RoS hosted a Product Launch at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh. There were video seminars on Automated Registration of Title to Land (artl), Registers Direct (rd), Business Development Products and Future Developments.

To take us into this section on some of RoS’ other less well known products and services we are joined by Charles Keegan (CK). Charles has been involved in RoS business development for a number of years.

CK: House price information. Surely everyone publishes house price information? Well let's have a look.

CK: Paul has told you about the range of statistics we publish and you have seen how the media make use of them. Whilst we disseminate property price information there is another way in which you can access it directly, first and at no cost. Let’s hear about it.

CK: We undertake searches on behalf of customers every day. People who want to know about boundaries, who have questions about ownership of land or who want to check burdens. Many come to us through mail and by phone but a number take place face to face in our customer service centres in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Let’s look at a typical enquiry and how we deal with it.

CK: That was just one story, just one enquiry, but we get thousands each year. Last year we dealt with over 100,000 telephone enquiries, almost 25,000 written enquiries and 9,500 visitors to our Centres. Our eservices desk also dealt with over 12,000 user enquiries in support of our products.

Turning to the Land Register. It is far from complete. Legistlated for in 1979 it first came into use in 1980. Until then all land and property had been recorded on the Sasines Register. The new map based register is just over half way to completion in relation to properties and by some 20 per cent in relation to land. This means that many properties are still not on the Land Register and don’t benefit from the indemnity guarantee it provides.

So what are the benefits of being on the Land Register and why do they matter.

CK: Some of the benefits of registration on the Land Register. We would be happy to talk to you about the benefits such registration might deliver for you and your customers.

Turning to mapping. RoS is the biggest user of maps in Scotland. We have a real expertise in their use and application. Let’s look at our role in that respect.

CK: I hope that short video has been able to demonstrate something of our experience and skills in mapping. Mapping is a complex and fast changing area. If you have an interest in, or use mapping, and think we can be of assistance please talk to us.

We don’t have enough time to feature all of our services by having individual videos on each of them so this final video will give you a mere taste of some of the other services we offer.

CK: As you have seen RoS is not just the Land Register for Scotland. Neither is it an organisation that is cut off from the rest of the public and private sector in Scotland. We are here to serve Scotland and to work with others to improve our services and to make sure that the people of this country know what we do and how we can help them. We would like to work with you to achieve that. If you have seen anything today that leads you to believe that we can work with you please speak to us. If you are looking for a service but haven’t seen it today please ask us if we can supply it or at least point you in the right direction.
